Day 7

The last day of my week long stab at nailing down my listening habits turned out to be another fairly light listening day.  Here’s how it shook down:

Nirvana, Bleach (the super deluxe version with the live set from Portland that came out a few months back), 1/2 hour in the car

More Everybody Knows Johnny Hodges, hour, soooooo good

More of the new Dave Holland Octet album, hour and a half.  I’m pretty sure Gary Smulyan has the second best bari sound ever (nobody’s ever gonna top Harry Carney)

Day total: 2.5 hours

Final Week Total: 27 hours

I came in above the average American cited by Sasha Frere Jones, but I didn’t listen to as much music as I thought I would.  Looks like I had about 4 or 5 hours or so in the car this week, and unlike the average listeners, I own almost all of the music I listened to this week as opposed to the “average” people who own less than 1/4 of what they listen to.  And I was right on at the beginning of the week when I said I listened to almost no radio – maybe under 2 hours, and that’s how it turned out.

Nothing genre-wise really shocked me, partially because it’s stuff I like, partially because it’s stuff I own, and partially because I like just about everything, so that limits any surprises.  Strange though, I didn’t listen to any country.  Apologies to Mr. Yoakam and Mr. Paisley.

Anyway, that about wraps it up.  Coming soon will be my takes on John Murph’s article on Tia Fuller in the latest issue of JazzTimes, the winners of this year’s Jazz Journalist Association awards, and whatever else strikes me at the moment.
